INTRODUCTION:

The Beneteau 331 was made from 1999 to 2004 (Alibi is hull number 200) until it was replaced by the 323 in 2004.  Built in Marion, South Carolina and designed by Groupe Finot, the 331 has been outfitted as the perfect coastal and bay cruiser with a well-thought out floor plan.  The 331 was provided with optional features like roller furling, and additional ports, all of which ALIBI provides.  This great light-air and coastal cruiser is known for its quick sailing, spacious cockpit, and large beam carried throughout most of the yacht providing great interior spaces down below.

Beneteau has become of of the largest boat producers in the world. The company was originally founded in 1884 in Croix-de-Vie, France.  By the 1960's, the company had branched into fiberglass hulls and the brand then exploded internationally becoming a leading producer of affordable cruisers with five different factories, including Beneteau's latest factory in Marion, SC which opened in 1986 and has nearly doubled in size and output since then.  Beneteau is known for their coastal cruisers that perform very well in coastal and light-air conditions.  They pick up speed easily in even a light breeze and are great for hopping from port to port or cruising the islands.

WHY FOR SALE?

ALIBI was purchased in 2012 by her current owners, who kept the boat behind their home in Annapolis.  With quick access to the bay, Alibi was used for many day sails, weekend getaways, and short cruises around the middle Chesapeake.  The owners have really enjoyed ALIBI, but are moving onto other hobbies.

DAVE'S RATING:

I know that when I travel with clients FAR out of town for yachts, I don't like surprises when I get there. It's embarrassing for me and can make for an expensive trip. With that in mind, I'd like to share my rating of various systems on the boat so you'll be as informed as possible before you come for a visit. My rating system is on a 1-10 scale with 10 being 'excellent' (in MY opinion). Please view this list as a GUIDE only. Everyone's idea of good and bad can vary quite a bit. My goal in doing this is to help you reach a comfort level with the boat before you invest time and energy to come and see it. I'll summarize by saying that this IS an incredibly well preserved six year old yacht worthy of your serious consideration.

OVERALL RATING: 9.75/10

I seriously spent quite a while looking for blemishes. The bilges are clean. The teak and upholstery are imaculate and show no wear and tear of any kind.  The cockpit is great for entertaining with the added rail seating.  The cockpit layout makes for easy single-handing.  All ship's systems appear to be in excellent working order and appear like new.

EXTERIOR RATING: 9.75/10

The rig & sails are all in great shape. Running rigging is fine.  The hull and decks show well.  All green sunbrella canvas is in good shape.  I put a Tramex moisture meter on the decks and found no recordable moisture or soft spots.  The bottom and keel were stripped and repainted with top of the line bottom paint in 2013.

ELECTRONICS & GEAR RATING: 10.0/10

Everything the boat has seems to be in perfect working order.  Ready to go with great electronics at the helm including a Raymarine C70 plotter and autohelm autopilot.

INTERIOR RATING: 9.0/10

This yacht has only seen light use with mostly day sailing so the interior shows very well.  There is a bit of corrosion on the stove burners and a slight amount of oxidation on some of the light fixutures, but all are in great working shape and still look good.

ENGINE & PROPULSION RATING: 10.0/10

Regular oil changes and a spotless engine room. Hoses look good. No corrosion on engine or mounts.

SAILS & RIG RATING: 10.0/10

FLAWLESS! Sunbrella canvas all in perfect shape.
