Hello All,
Despite 28 combined years in the business, Dave and I have experienced a first this month: delivery of a brand new boat. It is an interesting and fun experience to help a client order a custom yacht exactly to their needs and specifications. Our client, John, ordered a new Hanse 315 from Germany. The boat was built at Hanse's yard and then placed on a ship deck to make the trek across the Atlantic and up the Chesapeake to be offloaded in Baltimore Harbor. From there, a crew from Port Annapolis Marina was able to motor the yacht with it's rig laying on the deck down to Annapolis where three weeks of commissioning began. The commissioning crew had to put deck hardware on, step the rig, set up the systems, put the sails on, prep the bottom and apply the bottom paint, and unpack and assemble all of the interior upholstery. It is an intricate process but the end result is worth it: a beautiful new yacht!
The Hanse 315 is a great boat. With the self tacking rig, it is fairly hands-free sailing. The interior is light and cozy while the cockpit provides a fantastic entertainment space. For a 31 foot boat, this yacht really has an awesome cockpit thanks to the beam carrying so far aft.
Check out some of our photos of the process as the yacht was unloaded, commissioned, and then finally went on her first sails.
More to come!
Erin and Dave
(P.S. Please note that the first two photos of the yacht are actually of her sistership coming off the container ship. Same process, other boat!)
